The GTA includes the city of Toronto, and the neighbouring municipalities of Halton, Peel, Durham and York. According to the 2016 census, GTA had a population of 6,417,516. Being a major financial centre in North America, it is responsible for over 20% of the Canada’s GDP. About 40% of Canadian businesses have their headquarters here. The GTA has the largest road network in Canada with busy freeways and expressways. The 401 which is crossing at the top of Toronto, is North America’s busiest highway.

City of Toronto. In 1998 the municipalities of Metropolitan Toronto amalgamated and formed the City of Toronto. This mega city is now the fourth largest in North America and growing rapidly. Amalgamation started initially as a cost savings idea but after some initial savings, it never materialized. Some are suggesting a return to the old Metro Toronto system but that doesn’t seem likely. At any rate, the former municipalities are still known by their old names as Scarborough, East York, North York and Etobicoke.
The Durham Region is headquartered in Whitby and is the eastern part of the GTA. It starts east of Oshawa and borders Scarborough in the west. The southern part ends at Lake Ontario. The northern area is rural with small towns and communities. Uxbridge is a picturesque and thriving town at the north of the Region. The main population centres are in Pickering, Ajax, Whitby and Oshawa. Ecopainting is located a few kilometers outside Pickering and some of our painters live here.
York Region is located between Lake Simcoe to the North and the city of Toronto to the south. It borders Durham Region on the east side and Peel Region on the west. There are over one million people living here. Even though there is a large agricultural area, the majority reside in the urban centres of York Region. Ecopainting has customers in Markham, Richmond Hill, Vaughan, Newmarket and Aurora.
The Peel Region is the second largest municipality in Ontario. It includes the cities of Brampton and Mississauga and the town of Caledon. Caledon is sparsely populated but Brampton and Mississauga are big growing cities. There are 1,296,814 living in the Peel Region (according to the 2011 census). With Pearson International Airport located here, the economy of Brampton and Mississauga are booming. , Ecopainting Mississauga: In 2015 we opened an office in Mississauga to service the residential and commercial painting needs of the area. Two years later we decided that having two locations was too much of an expense for a company our size and we now service all GTA from our main location in Scarborough.
