We had the opportunity to paint the Scarborough location of G&K Sevices on Warden Avenue. They are a major provider of branded apparel programs and facility services. We provided painting services for their Oshawa location and the Scarborough plant in the past. This time, the project included painting most of the office and sales areas, painting the staff washrooms and locker rooms. In addition we had to paint the floor, walls, doors and some of the exterior of the Scarborough plant.

Painting the office, sales area and conference room was done during business hours. The low odour paints we used, made it possible for our painters to work alongside and around the G&K staff, without any major inconveniences. During that time it was important to schedule every job ahead of time and constant communication was paramount, as to not cause any major interference. The painting of the staff and plant washrooms was a bit more challenging. There are over 150 employees working at that location. Walls had to be prepared, primed and two tone enamel had to be used. We did not want to use alkyd based paints, as a result, super adherent paints and primers had to be used. Working in men's or women's washrooms during busy working hours however challenging, it was helped by the fact that both female and male painters were assigned to the project.

Painting the floor and the safety yellow lines had to be done during the weekend as these floors were used (and abused) daily. The floor enamel used, had to be a durable one coat solution with quick dry times. It also had to be tough enough to withstand the every day equipment and foot traffic. Epoxy floor coatings were not possible. Para Paints pre-mixed Light Grey Polyurethane floor enamel was used with great application results. It should prove to be a durable coating.
