Our Scarborough Painters call this community home. The Ecopainting office is located in the north east part of the city, also known as Malvern. Scarborough is home to the Rouge Valley and is famous for the the rugged beauty of the Bluffs. While the classic bungalow reigns supreme here, a vibrant new community is developing around the Scarborough Town Centre. Already there are thousands of new condos there, with more being built constantly. With great history and a bright future, this is the new Scarborough. The old “Scarberia” nickname will not do justice to this community.
Ecopainting has not only decorated some of the classic bungalows in the area, but also painted a number of commercial establishments. If you’re in the area and spot a white van with the Ecopainting logo, stop and say hello!
A Commercial Painting Project in Scarborough for a Repeat Client
We had the opportunity to paint the Scarborough location of G&K Services on Warden Avenue. They are a major provider of branded apparel programs and facility services. We provided painting services for the Oshawa and Scarborough G&K plants in the past. This time, the project included painting the office and sales areas, the staff washrooms and freshening up the locker rooms. In addition we had to paint their shop floor, walls, doors and some of the exterior.
Painting the office, sales area and conference room was done during business hours. By using low odour paints our painters were able to work alongside and around the G&K staff. By keeping the communication channels open, scheduling every area for painting was a breeze. This was the first time we used the new at the time Ultraspec 500 paint. Our painters were happy with the performance of the eggshell finish in the hallways.
Painting of the staff and plant washrooms during business hours was a little more challenging. There are over a 150 employees working at that location. We washed, patched and primed all the walls with a super adherent primer. The existing paint was a glossy alkyd and we wanted to convert it to acrylic. The colour scheme was a two tone beige. Working in both men’s and women’s washrooms during busy working hours was not the easiest task. The fact that Ecopainting employs both male and female painters made the job go smoother without inconveniencing the staff too much.
When it came to painting the floors, we had to do the work during the weekend. One weekend we prepped and painted the floors with Para Paints Polyurethane enamel. The colour was a premixed medium gray. The following weekend we painted the yellow safety lines with a PPG product the customer kept in stock. We discussed epoxy solutions but the cost and the logistics did not make it possible with this customer. We have been back to the plant for other work and the floor seems to be holding relatively well to all that foot traffic.
Residential Painting and Reviews by Scarborough Clients
Ecopainting is a full service residential painting company in the GTA. While most of our work consists of interior painting, we painted the exterior of many homes in Toronto and Scarborough. As part of our job closing procedure, we ask the customer to comment about their experience. The following are some comments that we received from Scarborough customers.
Janine G. Exterior Painting. “I was very pleased that Ecopainters researched the best paint for my exterior, aluminium siding. Also, the colour you chose for the siding was terrific! This time of year presented a challenge for painting, due to inclement weather, but the siding looks great and it makes the house look so much better/tidier! Painting was done according to the proposal. I am satisfied with the work completed by Ecopainting Inc.”
Evelyn K Birk Heritage Foundation. Interior Painting. “Thank you for your conscientious attention to detail and perfection in your work. You worked a miracle through your painting and transformed a sad, neglected house into a clean, new and livable one. We very much appreciate your efforts and hope to do business with you in the future. Thank you once again for doing such a fine Painting job!”
Eileen and Bob B. Interior Painting and Wallpaper Removal. “Jennifer was always on time and always prepared the crew for the day. She worked diligently and carefully in all the areas to be covered. She is a great worker to have. Anthony was here part of the time and did great work well.”
Bruce H. about his Painted Condo by the Scarborough Town Centre. “Thank you Karon. Not only was it my pleasure hosting your work crews, please consider it my honour to be used for a reference! Especially when the crew is headed up by Jennifer! My condo is a showpiece…thanks to you and your diligent work crews…thank you very, very much!”
Supporting The Local businesses and Vendors in Scarborough
As a local painter, we promote and prefer to work with independent businesses in the area. Boyd’s Decorating Centre has been almost an institution in Scarborough for over 40 years. In April 2015, we had an opportunity to interview Boyd’s owner Paul Boyd. They have been our go to Benjamin Moore vendor since the nineties. Read more about our favourite paint store in Scarborough and watch Paul’s video review for Ecopainting.
Ecopainting Building Ties with the Scarborough Community
Many companies depend on the community in many ways and we are no different. We paint homes and businesses here and our financial survival depends on the local residents. We also employ local painters that live, commute, shop and even play in this community.
We decided to bring some real value to the locals by sponsoring an hosting free events every year.
The Leftover Paint Giveaway. Every year we accumulate a lot of quality extra paint in colours that will not necessarily use again. Instead of recycling it, we decided to promote a Free Paint Giveaway event for the community. The event was very successful and we almost ran out of paint cans. Some people drove from far away, we even had a young family take the bus from the Beaches to pick up a few gallons of paint.
An Afternoon with a Designer. On July of 2016 we hosted a talk with Janice Fedak in our location at 1345 Morningside Avenue. Janice had a wonderful presentation and discussed the impact nature has on the the colours we choose. Janice owns the Toronto based firm, Janice Fedak Colour and Design. Ecopainting worked with Janice in the past and we were very excited to have her speak to us.
Patching and Taping Drywall Workshop. We invited one of our previous employees to run a hands on workshop on how to patch holes and tape drywall. This event was open and free of charge to the local residents and there was some great participation. Our space was packed and everyone came to learn by asking many questions and trying their hand on patching and taping.
Erna graduated from The Toronto School of Drywall and worked as a painter with Ecopainting about 10 years ago. Currently she is offering drywall and painting services in Vaughan, working for us part time and running her own business.
Considering how successful our events were, we will continue with holding similar events every year. From our mission statement: “We are positive participants and contributors in our community”. We work all over the GTA but we are located in Scarborough and most of our painters live in the east end of the city.
